Haaland Shines, City Defeats Burnley to Start Premier League with Authority
Manchester City, the three-time defending champions, had a successful start to their 2023–24 Premier League season. In the first game of the year on Friday, November 11, Pep Guardiola’s squad defeated Burnley at Turf Moor with ease, winning 3-0.
Erling Haaland, who scored both goals for the Citizens, continued his strong striker’s instincts from last season into the new one. Rodri finished off the scoring.
Manchester City had little trouble winning all three points in the matchup of the previous season’s first- and second-division champions.
Three minutes into the game, Rodri skillfully headed a pass from Kevin De Bruyne, which allowed Haaland to score with his left foot and give the team a 1-0 lead. After scoring first, the Manchester team kept up the pressure.
At the 35-minute mark, Haaland once again scored the second goal. This time, the Norwegian star was assisted by lvarez, who fired a first-time shot and scored an absolute masterpiece, giving Trafford no chance.
Having built up a sizable advantage, Manchester City controlled the game in the second half. Nevertheless, they were able to increase their advantage. After a flurry in the penalty area at the 30-minute mark, Rodri pounced on the stray ball to score the third goal.
Manchester City had complete control of the game, demonstrating their superiority and establishing a positive tone for the start of the season.
This victory sets the tone for what is sure to be an interesting and competitive season ahead by signaling City’s desire and resolve to continue their Premier League domination.
