An improved Indian squad entered the field on Day 4 of the second Test against the West Indies after dismissing the hosts for 255 in the first innings, taking a commanding lead of 183 runs. Despite rain delays in Port of Spain, the visitors understood the importance of an aggressive batting strategy to increase their chances of winning. In order to have ample time to dismiss the Windies in the second innings, they sought to score swiftly.

The Indian openers put up a classy performance, with Ishan Kishan scoring his first fifty after moving up to No. 4 in the batting order, Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a quick 38, and skipper Rohit Sharma scoring his quickest Test fifty. In only his second Test, Kishan was given the opportunity to play his natural game when Rohit Sharma  and Jaiswal were dismissed, and he took full advantage of the chance.

Ishan Kishan had the ideal chance to use his attacking abilities against the bowling as Shubman Gill guarded his end firmly. With the help of four fours and two sixes, Kishan reached his fifty in just 33 deliveries, displaying impressive stroke play. Notably, he hit two consecutive sixes off Kemar Roach, which tied him with Rishabh Pant, Virender Sehwag, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh, and MS Dhoni for the fifth-fastest fifty by an Indian in Test cricket.

In addition to this accomplishment, Kishan also achieved the second-fastest fifty by an Indian wicketkeeper by breaking Dhoni’s mark of 34 balls. Furthermore, he joined the select group of Naren Tamhane, Budhi Kunderan, and Farokh Khan as the sixth Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to play at No. 4 in Test cricket.
