Ohio’s MASON — Top-ranked players Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek overcame challenges and poor weather on Thursday to advance to the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals.

Alcaraz defeated American Tommy Paul, the 14th seed, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (0), 6-3 despite two rain delays that lasted a combined two hours and 35 minutes. Three hours and nine minutes were spent on the game.

Monfils did, however, convert the one break point he faced throughout the contest, and Djokovic was equally opportunistic, converting four of five.

Due to the withdrawals of their opponents for medical reasons, Elena Ryba kina and Ons Jabeur moved on to the next round.
