Pope Francis Urges Peace in Gaza and Release of Hostages in Christmas Day Message

Pope Francis encouraged the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and called for an end to the conflict in Gaza in his Christmas Day speech at St. Peter’s Basilica. The Pope, expressing condolences for the October 7 attack victims, demanded an end to military action and emphasized the necessity of increasing humanitarian aid to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. He also included the crises in Africa, the Korean Peninsula, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and the Ukraine in his call for peace. The Pope called migrants “the little Jesuses of today” and expressed his prayers for those making dangerous travels in quest of hope in order to draw attention to their predicament.
