Quinton de Kock made his farewell appearance at the ICC World Cup, and he did not disappoint with a stunning century that propelled South Africa past Bangladesh on Tuesday. In the 23rd encounter of this renowned competition, De Kock put the Bangladesh bowling attack in disarray by scoring his third century of the 2023 World Cup at the legendary Wankhede Stadium. With his historic century, De Kock, a former Mumbai Indians (MI) player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), thrilled the fans at Wankhede Stadium.

De Kock broke multiple records at the ODI World Cup by playing an outstanding innings that saw him score 174 runs off 140 balls. Notably, he achieved the highest individual score by a designated wicketkeeper in the history of the ICC event, shattering a 16-year-old World Cup record. With his incredible achievement, De Kock broke the previous record, which was held by Adam Gilchrist of Australia, who hit 149 against Sri Lanka in the 2007 ODI World Cup final.

De Kock Scores His Third World Cup Century:
In the history of the World Cup of cricket, the South African batsman has recorded the second-highest individual score for his nation. Despite De Kock’s incredible century, he was unable to surpass the mark set by Gary Kirsten, who is remembered for his incredible 188* against the UAE during the 1996 World Cup. Additionally, De Kock is ranked second in the category of the highest scores by designated wicketkeepers at the World Cup, with former India captain MS Dhoni being another notable name on the exclusive list.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), former India captain Mahesh Dhoni still holds the record for the highest individual score (183*) by a wicketkeeper. Building on his outstanding effort, this is De Kock’s third time over 150 runs in an ODI while serving as the designated wicketkeeper. With this achievement, De Kock becomes the wicketkeeper-batsman who has scored the most 150 or more runs in the 50-over format. South Africa made history by being the first team to record three scores of 350 or higher in one World Cup, mostly due to the explosive play of De Kock.

De Kock performs better in the 2023 World Cup than Rohit and Kohli:

De Kock enthralled the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium with a scorching knock of 174, which featured an astounding seven sixes and fifteen fours. With a strike rate of 124.29, the star opener formed strong alliances with Heinrich Klaasen (90) and stand-in captain Aiden Markram (60) during the 50-over match. In their allocated 50 overs, South Africa amassed a dominant score of 382-5 thanks to the batting prowess of De Kock, Markram, and Klaasen.

The Proteas batsman in form, De Kock, now holds the record for highest individual score in the ODI World Cup being played in India. He has also eclipsed the prestigious batting totals of Virat Kohli (354), and Rohit Sharma (311). This confirms his status as the 2023 World Cup’s top run scorer. Due to his exceptional efforts, De Kock has amassed an astounding 407 runs in just 5 games during this World Cup campaign.
